About...
The purpose of the program is to prevent the spread of communicable disease in the community. This is done mostly through investigation of reported disease cases and education of health care professionals and the public.
Program Services
The Communicable Disease Prevention Team investigates over 2000 reports of suspected and confirmed communicable disease each year. After the diagnosis is confirmed with the physician, the team ensures that the patient understands the disease and what the next steps are. Occasionally, the team provides medications or vaccines in order to prevent the spread of the disease. If there is an outbreak, people may be tested. Communicable disease prevention presentations and speakers are available for non-profit organizations and immunization information speakers are available to any practitioner who administers immunizations.
Who Is The Program For?
All residents of Franklin County benefit from these services. There are also links to other websites that provide information for health care providers and the public.
How To Use The Program
Communicable disease investigation and response is based on the reporting of communicable diseases by physicians or laboratories. Diseases are reported through the Communicable Disease Reporting System (CDRS) at 719-8888 or 719-8889 and can only be done by healthcare providers.
