The Office of Health Planning leads and supports Columbus Public Health's efforts to identify community health priorities and develop strategies to address them through our programs and/or collaborations. In the community, Office staff actively lead, participate in and/or support community planning processes.
Program Services
Office of Health Planning staff provide leadership for internal and external health planning efforts and initiatives at Columbus Public Health and in the community. Our work includes: - Convening, facilitating, and participating in planning work teams.
- Designing strategic analyses.
- Facilitating strategic decision-making.
- Integrating health information into reports regarding key health issues.
- Sharing reports and guiding their use in the development of
strategies to improve health in Columbus.
With an emphasis on chronic disease prevention, our office has specific projects in the areas of creating healthier places to live and work, preventing heart disease, tobacco cessation and more. In addition, preventing child deaths is a major area of health planning. Main Office Programs Include:

Top 10 Tips for Healthier, Safer Children Based on the work of the Franklin County Child Fatality Review, this booklet is designed to help parents to identify threats to the well-being of their children and to provide the necessary information and resources, so that they can anticipate threats and know what to do to prevent them. Also available in Spanish and Somali. Improving Access to Healthy Food: A Community Planning Tool Self-help resource for anyone wanting to work with others to find ways to bring healthy foods into their community. The tool helps communities gather information about the food that’s available in the area, develop strategies to bring more healthy foods to the community and measure the success of those efforts. Near East Healthy Neighborhoods Report, 2004 Contains information about the leading health issues in the Near East, blending both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. 2005 Franklin County Child Fatality Review Annual Report The report identifies the leading causes of death for infants and children in Franklin County for the period 2000-2003 and recommends way to help prevent future deaths and injury. 2006 Franklin County Child Fatality Review Annual Report (PDF) Identifies the leading causes of death for infants and children in Franklin County for deaths occurring in 2004.
