About...
| The Rat Control Program focuses on reducing the rat population in the City of Columbus. Rats are a concern because of the property damage that they can cause and the health hazards that they present, such as the spreading of the Hantavirus, which is a disease transmitted through rat urine, droppings, or saliva. |
Program Services
| Surveying Surveying is done in the City of Columbus, and is focused where the rat population is greatest. The Rat Control Program team checks problem areas for signs of rat infestation and revisits these areas regularly to monitor rat activity. Baiting Baiting is done when a rat problem has been identified. This process includes placing rat poison in the area where the rats seem to be living. Educating Education is a key part of the Rat Control Program. Due to the health concerns surrounding rats, it is important for the public to know what to do to prevent rat problems, and what to do if a rat problem already exists. | |
