Smokers Quit for the Day For Smokeout
November 9, 2007

The American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout® encourages smokers to quit for a day in the hope they may quit for good once they discover the many resources now available to help them.  Quitting smoking isn't easy, but you can boost your odds of quitting for good this time when you have the right support.

Research shows that smokers are most successful in kicking the habit when they have help to address the physical and emotional aspects of quitting – such as nicotine gum or patches, counseling, prescription medicine for cravings, self help guide books, and the support of friends and family.

Methods of quitting can include:

  • nicotine gum or patches
  • counseling
  • prescription medicine for cravings
  • self help guide books
  • online quitting guides
  • group classes
  • support of friends and family

The benefits of quitting tobacco happen sooner than you think.
