Concern continues about the public health risk of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) and Avian Influenza A (H5N1) Virus. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides up-to-date information about bird flu and about a specific type of bird flu, called Avian Influenza A (H5N1) that is infecting birds in Asia and has infected some humans. H5N1 has not yet appeared in the U.S. If the virus does appear in the U.S., it does not mean the start of a flu epidemic.
