Announcement
Smoke Free Indoor Air
On January 31, Columbus joined cities and states across the country in becoming a smoke free environment. The City of Columbus Smokefree Indoor Air Act, passed by Columbus City Council in June, is a significant step forward in improving public health by reducing people's exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke. Under the Smokefree Indoor Air Act, the Columbus Health Department is responsible for public education and complaint response and enforcement. Enforcement activities will began on January 31, 2005. Violations of the ordinance can be reported to the Health Department through our hotline 614-724-4AIR (4247). Informational packets on the Smokefree Indoor Air Act are available to assist businesses in complying with all aspects of the ordinance. These may be requested via the hotline. All of the information contained in the packet is downloadable from our website on the Smokefree Indoor Air Education and Compliance Program page. We at the Health Department are committed to providing area businesses with the information and tools necessary to assure a smooth transition to a smoke free environment in Columbus. Should you have any questions concerning the Smokefree Indoor Air Act please contact us at 614-724-4AIR (4247).
