Prostate Cancer Touches Many
September 5, 2008
Prostate cancer can touch any man in our lives -- our husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons. Not Just a Man's Problem Because of its effect on loved ones, prostate cancer is not just a man’s problem, it is a family problem. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer found in men, striking approximately 200,000 men per year and about 30,000 men in the U.S. die each year from prostate cancer. Prostate cancer forms in tissues of the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum (National Cancer Institute). Fight Prostate Cancer - Get Screened - Prostate cancer is highly treatable if detected early.
- Men should begin routine screenings as early as the age of 40.
- African-American and men with a family history of prostate cancer (father, brother, or other male relative) are at higher risk.
