What is prenatal care?
The health care a woman gets during her pregnancy before their baby is born is called prenatal care. It is best to: - Get early prenatal care. If you know you are pregnant, or think you might be, call your health care provider as soon as possible and set up a visit.
- Get regular prenatal care. Go to all set visits and don't miss appointments. Each one is important.
- Try to do the things that you learn about at your visits. This is the best way to keep yourself and your baby health during your pregnancy.
Why is prenatal care so important? Prenatal care is important because your doctor has the chance to find problems early so that they can be treated right away. Other problems might also be prevented. Many studies have shown that early and regular prenatal care is important for the health of both mothers and their babies. Source: National Women's Health Information Center
