Strategic Goals: Continue to implement the National Incident Management System to assure compliance through planning, training and exercising. Improve planning, training and exercise efforts assuring a rapid response to the health needs of our citizens. Identify and measure risks prior to incidents using the FEMA hazard assessment tool. Enhance and maintain interoperable and redundant communication and information management systems. Educate residents on prevention, protection and recovery from public health threats and hazards. Ensure community protection through vaccination and antibiotic administration in response to a public health emergency Enhance and maintain Epidemiological Surveillance and Investigation Provide guidance on infection control practices regarding Isolation and Quarantine Provide the public with accurate and timely information and warning during a public health event or emergency
Additionally, Columbus Public Health helped form the Columbus & Metropolitan Medical Response System (CMMRS) in 1997. CMMRS was created with federal domestic preparedness funds to provide local response teams and medical care providers with equipment, supplies and training. The system supports coordination between many response agencies including fire departments, law enforcement, emergency medical services, emergency management agencies, hospitals, the private sector, and others. A Regional Medical Response System (RMRS) was created to coordinate the preparedness and response activities of 15 Central Ohio counties: Crawford, Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Hardin, Knox, Licking, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, Union, and Wyandot.
